NEW RICHMOND- Mrs. Zora L. Hornbeck, 88, widow of James L. Hornbeck, died Saturday afternoon in the Ben Hur Home at Crawfordsville. She was seriously ill two weeks and a resident of the home five years. A resident of the New Richmond community most her life, Mrs. Hornbeck was born Aug. 25, 1875 at West Lebanon the daughter of Samuel Magruder and Eliza Petro Magruder. She married James Hornbeck June 9, 1902. The husband died Nov. 9, 1955. Mrs. Hornbeck, a teacher in Montgomery and Tippecanoe County schools many years, taught at the Shelby Corner School near New Richmond and the Buck Creek School in Tippecanoe County. She was a member of the New Richmond Methodist Church, New Richmond Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and a past worthy matron of the chapter. She was a graduate of Valparaiso University. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Ina Petry of Indianapolis, and Mrs. Julia Meritt of Kokomo; a son, Hugh M. Hornbeck of Odenton, Md., two brothers, Harry Magruder of Dunn, N. C., and Edward Magruder of Indianapolis, 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and a niece and a nephew. A brother and sister preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday in the Helms Funeral Home Chapel at Linden. Rev. Harold Clark of New Richmond will be the officiating minister. Burial will be at the New Richmond Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Monday.
