Sarah Price Hornbaker, 99, first grade teacher at Mills School for more than 30 years before her retirement in 1941, died Monday at the home of her niece, Mrs. Sue Morton Jenkins, at Indianapolis, where she had made her home the past five years. Miss Hornbaker was the oldest member of the Alpha Phi Sorority. She was initiated in that group in 1891. She was also the oldest woman alumnus of DePauw University. She graduated from there in 1893. She was a member of Dorothy Q Chapter, DAR. After her graduation, she taught first and second grades for a year at Alamo. The following three years she was a teacher at Whitesville and went to Alexandria for eight years. She then spent 1 1/2 years at Elwood. She started teaching school at Mills in 1908. She was born May 31, 1872, near Yountsville, the daughter of Albert T. and Susan Price Hornbaker. In addition to Mr. and Mrs. Jenkins, she is survived by a great-nephew, W. Russell Hornbaker of Grand Rapids, Mich. Services for Miss Hornbaker will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Jump officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Wednesday.
