Hopper - May L.

The many friends of May L. Hopper, a native of this county, were pained to learn of her death, which occurred at the home of her sister at West Middleton, September 3d. When we hear of the death of one so young, so good, so bright, so everything that makes one lovable, we are apt to question why they were taken. But to palliate our sorrow comes the thought, “Death loves a shining mark.”
May had been a sufferer from consumption for many weary months. It is needless to say she bore up with heroic fortitude. As she lived, she died, not thinking of herself, but others, and asking them not to cry for her, “for His will is best.” She was an active member of the Epworth league and all church work received her hearty cooperation. How the church will miss her, for her very presence was a joy to them. And how the home folks will miss her, let those who understand it tell, “Since she went home, How still the empty rooms her presence blessed. Untouched the pillows that her dear head pressed; My lonely heart hath nowhere for its rest since she went home.”
