Mrs. JD Holland died at her home on Green Street on Sunday night. She has been very ill for some weeks with tuberculosis. The funeral services were held at the Baptist Church on Tuesday afternoon, Rev. HR Baker officiating. Interment at Maple Ridge. Bertha May Purcell was born at Judson Sept 28, 1879. In 1890 she came to Waveland to make her home with Mr. and Mrs. George Hanna, for whom she has since cherished a daughter's love. She joined the Presbyterian Church Feb 1896 and has lived quietly a happy Christian life. Last winter she transferred her membership to the Baptist Church to be with her husband. She married John D. Holland Nov 1, 1900 and he with their three children survive. Mrs. Holland was a woman of quiet Christian love. Her life was in her home. As a wife she was faithful and happy. As a neighbor and friend she was unobtrusive and kind. For many months she has been a victim of the disease which caused her death and for several weeks a great sufferer, yet she has been uncomplaining and hopeful. Among those from a distance attending the funeral were: Mrs. Archer of Chicago, Lee and Charles Purcell of Judson; Mrs. Lilly Faith, Des Moines, Iowa; Henry Faith of Bridgeton; Mrs. Smith and Miss Smith of Lapland and Ira Holland and Miss Holland of Raccoon. - typed by kbz
