Holland - Frank

Frank Holland, 78, of 717 S. Washington St., retired veteran of the Crawfordsville Fire Department, died Thursday afternoon in Culver Hospital after an illness of two and a half weeks. He was a member of the fire department here for 35 years, from July of 1922 until his retirement in 1957. Mr. Holland was a high school football star here after the turn of the century and remained an ardent sports fan. A native of this city, he was born July 4, 1889 to Charles and Lydia Hatt Holland. He was married to Dorothy Cruse on Feb. 10, 1925. She survives. Mr. Holland was a member of the First Baptist Church and Eagles Lodge. Surviving besides his wife are a twin brother, A. H. “Gus” Holland of Crawfordsville; two sisters, Mrs. Belle Boraker and Mrs. Blanche Devitt of this city; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Dorothy Burk of Lafayette, and nieces and nephews. Funeral services are announced for 4 p.m. Saturday at Hunt and Son Funeral Home. Rev. Milo Riggs will be the minister, with interment in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Friday. – jlr
