George H. Hoffa, 70, former resident here, died Wednesday in his home at Gosport. Mr. Hoffa was employed about 10 years as a bookkeeper with Crawfordsville Scrap and Salvage. Before that he worked for eight years on the railroad. He retired eight years ago and moved to Gosport. A native of Crawfordsville, he attended schools here. He was a member of the Methodist Church at Gosport and the Garfield Masonic Lodge at Hammond. He was born July 10, 1901, to George and Margaret Carver Hoffa. He married Geneva Armstrong of Crawfordsville. She died in September, 1970. Also preceding him in death were a brother, “Babe,” who died in December, 1969, and a sister. Surviving are a son, George Junior of Jeffersonville; a daughter, Mrs. Louise Turner of Gosport; two brothers, Gerald Hoffa of Crawfordsville and Edwin Hoffa of Boulder, Colo; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Masonic services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday at Whitaker Funeral Home in Gosport. Funeral services will be held at the Gosport United Methodist Church at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery here. Friends may call at the funeral home. Chris M.
