Waveland, March 15 -- Mrs. Clara HODKINS (Hodgkins) wife of Robert died at her home 4 miles NW of here at 7 o’clock this morning after an attack of pneumonia. Mrs. Hodgkin was 59 and has always been a resident of this neighborhood. She was the daughter of Aaron and Sarah Cowan and was born and raised on the farm on which she died. Her death came following a few days illness came as a shock to the entire community. Mrs. Hodgkin was one of the most respected women in this community and has always born a reputation as being a good Christian woman. She was a member of the Methodist Church and was the mother of 8 children one of whom died in infancy. Those surviving: Mrs. Ethel Stilwell of Browns Valley; Mrs. Nellie Deer (sic) and Mrs. Jessie Deere (sic) of Waveland; Mrs. Mary Burgess of New Market; Robert, Earl, Nelia and Ruth all living at home. There are also two sisters: Mrs. Ellen Whittington of Kansas and Miss Florance Cowan of Waveland and one brother, George M. Cowan. No arrangements have been made for the funeral but it is expected to be sometime Friday. -- kbz

Mrs. Robert Hugh Hodgkin died at her home northwest of town early on Wednesday morning, after but a few days' illness with pneumonia. Funeral services will be held at the home Friday (this) morning at half past 10, Rev. Olin Stewart, of the Methodist Church in charge. Interment at Maple Ridge. Clara Cowan, second daughter of Aaron and Sarah Cowan, was born on the old Cowan farm, where she died Spet 19, 1857 and died March 15, 1916, aged 58 years 6 months 16 days. She attended school at Waveland and Russellville. she was married to Mr. Hodgkin Sept 12, 1878. To them were born 8 children: Roy; Mrs. Ethel Stilwell; Mrs. Jessie Deere; Mrs. Nellie Deere; Mrs. Mary Burgess; Robert Earl; Nelia and Ruth; all of whom are living excepting Roy, who died in infancy. Besides the husband, there also survive her two sisters, Mrs. Ellen M. Whittington of Emporia, Kansas and Florence Cowan; also one brother, George M. Cowan. She joined the Methodist Church about 25 years ago and has been a faithful and attentive member. Her great interest in life was in her home, in the duties of which she was never failing. But her sympathies did not stop there, as she was also a good neighbor, and took a deep interest in the welfare of the community. Her best eulogy is the affection of her children and respect of her neighbors. -- kbz

Waveland March 17 – Mrs. Robert Hugh Hodgkin died at her home in Spring Valley north of Waveland early yesterday morning having been ill with pneumonia but five days. She was the daughter of Aaron and Sarah Cowan and was born in 1865 on the farm where she died. She was married to Mr. Hodgkin in 1878. The widower and 7 children survive, viz: Mrs. Ethel Stilwell; Mrs. Jessie Deer; Mrs. Nellie Deer; Mrs. Mary Burges and Robert, Earl, Nelia and Ruth Hodgkin. Funeral services were held at the home at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Interment was in Maple Ridge cemetery. She was a member of the Methodist Church and Rev. Olin Stewart had charge of the funeral. - kbz
