Leonard Himes, 47 of Rt 6, farmer, businessman and world War II veteran, died Thursday afternoon in Union Hospital at Terre Haute, where he was admitted Wednesday after being stricken with heart ailment. He was a 1941 Ladoga HS graduate. Mr. Himes was a director of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce , co-owner of Wolf-Himes, Inc a fertilizer business at Wingate and a former emplyee of the Veterans Affairs Office at Indianapolis. Mr. Himes was a member of the Church of the Brethren at Ladoga, Masonic Lodge at New Richmond, Scottish Rite of Valley of Indianapolis, Murat Temple of the Shrine, Wingate American Legion Post, Elks Lodge 483 of Crawfordsville 40 & 8 of Crawfordsville and of the John Purdue Club. He was in the Army Air Corps in WWII. Born June 28, 1923 at Ladoga, he was a son of Mark and Martha Leonard Himes. He was married June 28, 1947 in Elmdale to lucretia Hauk, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Mark at home, two nieces reared in his home, Mrs. Richard W. Morris of Cyrstal Lake, Ill and Mrs. Thomas A. Townsend of Newtown; a sister, Mrs. Phil Davis of Danville, Ind, an uncle, John Leonard of VanWert, Ohio and two aunts, Mrs. Mary Ridenous also of Van Wert, and Mrs. Ruth Ross of Chillicothe, Ohio. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Servies-Thomas Funeral Hpme in Waynetown, with Rev. Albert Harshbarger officiating. Burial in Wayneotwn Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 pm. Sat and after 1 pm. SUnday. New Richmond Masons will conduct rites at the funeral home at 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Herman Leonard Himes, age 47, passed away at Union Hospital in Terre Haute shortly after noon Thursday, April 15, 1971. He had entered the hospital on Wednesday soon after suffering a heart attack at the Wolf & Himes offices in Wingate where he was associated with Kenneth Wolf in the farm fertilizer and chemical business. Mr. Himes was born June 28, 1923, at Ladoga, Ind., the son of Mark and Martha Leonard Himes. He graduated from Ladoga High School in 1941. He was married to Lucretia Hauk of the Elmdale community and they continued to reside on a farm northwest of that place. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren at Ladoga, New Richmond Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Valley off Indianapolis, Murat Shrine Temple of Indianapolis, Wingate American Legion, 40 & 8 Voyageur No. 310 of Crawfordsville, the Elks 483 of Crawfordsville, member of the John Purdue Club, and a director of the Montgomery Co. Chamber of Commerce. He served in the U. S. Air Force during World War II and was later employed in the Veterans Affairs office, in Indianapolis. Returning to the farm, Mr. Himes soon formed the Wolf & Himes partnership with Kenneth Wolf (now incorporated) for the farm fertilizer and chemical business at Wingate, an enterprise recognized throughout all west central Indiana. Surviving are his wife and a seven-year old son, Mark; two nieces reared in his home, Mrs. Richard Morris of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Mrs. Thomas Townsend of Newtown; one sister, Mrs. Phil Davis of Danville, Ind.; an uncle, John Leonard and an aunt, Marry Ridenour, both of Van Wert, Ohio; an aunt, Mrs. Ruth Ross of Chilicothe, Ohio, and several other nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a. m. Monday at the Servies-Thomas Funeral Home in Waynetown, with Rev. Albert Harshbargar officiating. Burial will be in the Wavnetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p. m. Saturday and after 1 p.m. Sunday. Masonic services will be conducted by the New Richmond Lodge at the funeral home at 8:30 a. m. Monday.
