Deward Kelsey Hightower, 72, of 403 Louise Ave., died Thursday morning at Culver Hospital after suffering a heart attack a week ago. A World War I veteran, he was a member of Calvary Tabernacle Church, Odd Fellows and American Legion. He was retired from Mid-States Steel and Wire Co., and for the past few years had served as a school crossing watchman. Born July 9, 1899, in Fountain County, he was a son of John and Rebecca Pearson Hightower. He was married Oct. 9, 1920, to Mable McCall. Survivors include a son, John of Crawfordsville; three daughters, Mrs. Etta Mills of Jacksonville, Fla., Mrs. Dorothy Miller of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Evelyn Hardee of Brownsburg; two brothers, Alfred of Wingate, and Tom of Hillsboro; a sister, Mrs. Bertha Ziegler of Crawfordsville, and seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hunt and Son Funeral Home with Rev. N. L. Holland officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Wingate. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Friday. --typed by Walt W
