LEBANON -- Eugene Johnston Higbee, 74, a charter member of the Crawfordsville Lions Club, died today in Seton Hospital at Austin, Tex. Mr. Higbee was admitted to the hospital after suffering a fall while visiting Austin. He was a former accountant with the Elston Bank and Trust Co. He had been a member of the Crawfordsville Elks Club and had been active in the First Christian Church while living in Crawfordsville. Mr. Higbee was a member of the Central Christian Church of Lebanon where he had served as deacon, elder and treasurer. He was a member of the K of P of Lebanon and an officer in the Senior Citizens Club. He had been graduated from Lebanon High School and had attended Wabash College and a business school at Terre Haute. He was born near Montezuma on Jan. 4,1902, a son of Fred and Katherine Johnston Higbee. He was married to Marjorie Gullion June 20, 1926, at Lebanon. Surviving are the widow; a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Martha Katherine) Maxstadt of Anderson; a niece, Mrs. Richard (Linda) Matz of Austin; two grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Frank McCord of Rosedale. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday in Russell and Hitch Funeral Home with the Rev. Fred Sharp officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Lebanon. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Thursday.
