On Thursday evening Harmon H. Hiatt at 5 o’clock died at his home south of the city on the Terre Haute pike from paralysis of the throat. The funeral took place at the old home on Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock and was conducted by Rev. SW Goss, interment being at the Masonic Cemetery. Mr. Hiatt was born in Guilford County, NC Jan 20, 1819 and came to this state with his parents when a babe. Since 1869 he has been a resident of this city. He leaves a wife and 3 children, Mrs. Brown, Miss Lou Hiatt and Joseph Hiatt of New Harmony, Ind. In early life Mr. Hiatt studied medicine, graduated and followed the profession for a few years, but disliking the practice he engaged in school teaching, and after quitting that confined his attention to farming on a small scale. He was a man of fine mind and highly educated. He was one of the best historians in the county and frequently wrote for the press very able articles on economic questions. - transcribed by kbz

Harmon Hiatt, a well known and aged resident of this county, died last evening at his home just south of Crawfordsville. Mr. Hiatt had been in failing health for over two years. He operated a fruit farm and took quite an interest in public affairs during his active life, writing much for the press. He leaves a wife, two daughters, Miss Lou Hiatt and mrs. Brown and one son, Joel W. Hiatt of New Harmony. - transcribed by kb
