Mrs. Sarah Hickman, who has been in very poor health for a long time, died on Tuesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Wilson, So. of town. Funeral services. will be held at the home some time today, Rev. Samuel Essicks in charge. The funeral was deferred to allow Henry Hickman to get here from NY.
Mrs. Hickman was born 75 years ago in Ky. Her maiden name was Taylor. She married Jackson Hickman who died about 18 years ago. They had 3 sons, John, Henry and George and one daughter, mentioned above. George lives here. Henry, when at home, lives in Terre Haute, but is now in the Ambulance service. John lives in Mecca and is prevented from being here by the small pox quarantine. -- kbz

Sarah Elizabeth Taylor, daughter of Jesse and Sallie Taylor, was b. in Monroe Co Ky Sept 17, 1849.
And on the evening of Dec 17, 1918 at 8 o'clock she fell into that beautiful sleep which knows no awakening, age 69 years and 3 months.
When she was about a year old, her parents moved to North Carolina, when about 12 she came to Indiana and has lived in and near Waveland since.
The last few years she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Charles Wilson.
She was married to Jackson Hickman in 1874 who died Sept 17, 1900.
To them was born 5 children: George of Mecca, John and Mrs. Mary Wilson of Waveland, Nancy, who was called home when 2 years old and Henry, who is at the Field Hospital at Williamsbridge NY doing his bit for our country.
She had been in poor health for about 12 years and bed fast most of the time for 2.
Although she suffered terribly she bore it all with patience that was wonderful.
She realized that the end was near and prayed to be taken home. A t an early age she united with the Baptist Church.
Afterward she moved her membership to the Christian.
She was a true Christian, a devoted mother, a good friend and neighbor and an honest, hard working, woman respected by all.
She will be sadly missed but we would not call her back, we feel that our loss is her gain, and that God has taken another of his children to share in the glories of the Great Beyond. Her last days were spent in praise of the Master and her last words were, "Open the gate, let me go home."
May this be an inspiration to the children.
May they live so that when the end draws near they can say as Mother did, Lord, I am ready, take me home.
And may God in his love and tender mercy administer the balm for aching hearts which the world can not, and draw them to himself.
Besides the children she is survived by 11 grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Nancy Palmer of NC, one brother, John Taylor of Tenn and a host of friends.
Children trust in God and mourn not.
Mother is at rest.
