Dr. R. L. Hester, son-in-law of T. J. Beard, died at his home at Stillwater, Oklahoma, last Sunday morning. He was taken suddenly ill on Friday with a stomach trouble which resulted in his death two days afterwards. Several physicians were in constant attendance but their skill availed nothing.
He was born in North Carolina in 1854 and graduated in the study of his profession on the 4th of July, 1879, at Boston. At the beginning of Cleveland’s administration he received the appointment as physician at he Pawnee agency, at which place he was married on Oct. 9th, 1888 to Miss Mattie Beard, who was serving as a missionary among the Indians. He moved to Stillwater in August after the opening of Oklahoma, and combined the practice of medicine with the mercantile business.
Funeral services were conducted under the auspices of the Odd Fellows Lodge of which he was a member, at the M. E. Church, on Tuesday at 3 p.m., and the remains interred in Fair Lawn Cemetery.
