Col. Algy E. Hesler, 78, US Army Retired Col. of 1204 Yale Ave, Bayshore Gardens, Bradenton FL died at Bay Pines Vet. Admin. Hospital, St. Pete. He was born in Hillsboro Ind June 25, 1889 and went to Bradenton 11 years ago from Jenkintown, Pa. Col. Hesler was a veteran of WWI & II. The major part of his WWII service he was a commanding officer at Camp Ashby, Va. Between wars he was on the staff of the US Fed. Penitentiary at Lewisburg Pa for 20 years. Col. Hesler was a member of the New Liberty Christian Church, a former chairman of the American Cancer Society, first commodore of Bayshore Gardens Yacht Club, past pres of Square Club, a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Bradenton Ret. Officers' Club. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth M. Hesler; two daugthers, Mrs. Wilson Whiting of Gladwyne, Pa and Mrs. Charles Clarkson of Carneys Point, N; two sisters, Mrs. Burchar Welsh of Carbondale, ill and Miss Velma Hesler of Albuquerque, N M and 5 grandchildren. Funeral services were held April 23 at Griffith-Cline Funeral Home and burial with full military honors was at 2 p.m April 24 at Arlington National Cemetery, Va.

Bradenton – Col. Algy E. Hesler, 78, US Army, Ret. 1204 Yale Ave died Saturday. Born in Indiana (Fountain County 23 June 1889 to Walter Scott and Augusta Ingersoll Hesler) he came here 11 years ago from Jenkintown, PA. He was a member of the Christian Church and a Mason. Survivors include his widow Mrs. Elizabeth M. Hesler; two daughters, Mrs. Willson Whiting, Pennsylvania and Mrs. Charles Clarkson, New Jersey; two sisters, Mrs. Burchard Welch, Illinois and Miss Velma Hesler, New Mexico. Note: Buried Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
Source: The obituary is from a collection by Fauniel Hershberger, saved the 1950's, 60's and 70's. She was a life long resident of Fountain County Indiana. The collection is now housed at Crawfordsville District Public Library.

Born in Hillsboro, he had resided in Bradenton 11 years. He was a veteran of World War I and II. The major part of his WW II service was as commanding officer at Camp Ashby, Va.
