Lawrence E. “Shorty” Herron, 62, of 300 N. Oak St., died this morning in Veterans Hospital at Indianapolis. He had retired from R. R. Donnelley & Sons Co. on Sept. 6 with more than 41 years of service with the firm. Mr. Herron began his career in Department CC pressroom where he remained until the phase-out of that department. He then became a standard time estimator in the controller’s department. He served with the Army in the European Theater during World War II. He is a member of the Crawfordsville American Legion Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Eagles Lodge. He is a 1931 graduate of Crawfordsville High School. Born June 15, 1912, he was a son of Shadrick and Margaret Thompson Herron. He was married to Josephine Kinkead who died June 14 of this year. Surviving are a son, Michael of Crawfordsville; a brother, Clarence of Crawfordsville; and a sister, Zetta Bunnell of near New Richmond. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Hunt & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Lucian Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday. – jlr
