Herron - Elhelda Ward

Ethelda (Ethel) C. Herron, 91, a resident of Montgomery County for many years, died early Friday morning in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lulu M. Sheaffer, 915 W. Main St. She was born near Thorntown May 10, 1871, and her parents were Oscar and Jane McLaughlin Ward. On March 9, 1891, she married Thomas A. Herron and the couple lived in a log cabin on the Andrew Herron farm near Waynetown. She was a member of the Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church and attended the Britton School southeast of Crawfordsville and a summer term at the Whitesville School. Her father was a Civil War veteran. She also was a member of the Woman’s Relief Corps and Simonides Court I of the Ben Hur Life Association serving as inner door keeper for many years with a perfect attendance record. Her daughter, Mrs. Shaeffer, the wife of Montgomery County recorder, Lawrence Shaeffer, the only survivor. The daughter is employed at the First National Bank & Trust Co. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday in the Hunt & Son Funeral Home with Rev. John DeKruyter officiating. Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Saturday. – jlr
