Mrs. Cora C. Herron, 72, of the Liberty Chapel neighborhood near Crawfordsville died Saturday, May 5, 1973, at Culver hospital in Crawfordsville, where she had been admitted two hours earlier. She had been in ill health for many months. Born Oct. 24, 1901, near Wingate, she was the daughter of William and Mary C. Coon. She was married to Earl Franklin Herron May 10, 1928. He died June 4, 1965. She graduated from Wingate High School in 1921 and Madame Blake’s School in Indianapolis in 1923. She taught school in Wingate and New Richmond areas. She was a charter member of the Fountain County Historical Society and a 50-year member of the Waynetown Chapter 435, Order of the Eastern Star. Other memberships were the Liberty Chapel Church and its Ladies Aid, the Dorothy Q chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution of Crawfordsville and the Breaks Home Economics Club. Survivors include three sons, William of Greenfield, Charles of Waynetown and Jack of Crawfordsville; four daughters, Mrs. Ruby Ralston of Waynetown, Mrs. Mary Abston of Willard, Ohio, Mrs. Helen Rutledge of Mellott, and Mrs. Jane Whipple of Logansport; a brother, Clyde Coon of Wingate; 20 grandchildren, and a great grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother and a grandchild. Funeral services were held on Monday morning at the Servies-Thomas Funeral Home with the Rev. Everett White officiating. Burial in the Waynetown Masonic cemetery. – jlr
