WAYNETOWN—Chester Hendricks, 78, lifetime resident of this neighborhood, died at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Culver Hospital at Crawfordsville, where he had been taken a week ago after suffering a stroke. The son of James Wesley and Amanda Henderson Hendricks, he was born Feb. 29, 1884, at the homestead about two miles south of Waynetown where he spent his life. He was married in Waynetown Feb. 26, 1916 to Dora M. Smith, who died July 10, 1961. He was educated at the Ridge Farm School in Ripley Township and was a member of the Waynetown Baptist Church and Waynetown Masonic Lodge 302. Surviving are three sons, Paul and Dale, both of Rt. 4, Crawfordsville, and Clyde of Mishawaka; a daughter, Mrs. Robert Patton, 303 Wayne Ave., Crawfordsville; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and three sisters, Mrs. Daisy Fruits of New Richmond, Mrs. Alice Grenard of Indianapolis and Mrs. John Higbee, 711 E. Market St., Crawfordsville. Preceding Mr. Hendricks in death were a brother, Oscar Hendricks; a half-brother, William Hendricks, and a grandson, Robert Dale Hendricks. Funeral services are announced for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Servies Funeral Home, with Rev. John Servies officiating, assisted by Rev. Lewis Poore. Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Wednesday.
