SARAH ROBINSON HENDERSON -- "Aunt Sally"

Source : Crawfordsville Journal July 17, 1917

Sarah Robinson Henderson was born in County Armaugh, Ireland Nov 24, 1842. She was stricken with apoplexy July 1 and died July 8, 1917, aged 74Y 6M and 14 D. She was married to James Henderson Aug 2, 1863 and on May 12, 1864 they sailed from Liverpool for America and after a voyage of 10 weeks landed at NY July 19, 1864. From there they came to Montgomery County, Indiana where they both lived the remainder of their days. He departed this life on March 19, 1904, having proceeded her 13 years, 4 months and 20 days. Aunt Sally, as she was known was a kind and loving mother and her many good deeds and noble influence will be felt and cherished by her children as precious gems of memory. As a neighbor, she was loved by all, and none could have more welcome anywhere than at her home. She appreciated the joy and happiness of others and shared their sorrows and afflictions and her hearty welcome in her home to her relatives and friends will never be forgotten. She has passed to the life beyond, but her influence still lives after her. She was a member of the Round Hill Methodist Church and one of her joys in this life was to attend the house of worship. She was also a member of the Ladies' Aid Society for a number of years. She loved the Church and was always glad to have God's ministers in her home. Three children have preceded her to the grave. Those left to mourn her death are Miss Rachel, at home, John Henderson, Mrs. J. Frank Stout, Mrs. William Peters, Mrs. Robert Cote of Rasperburg, Md, Miss Fannie Henderson of Los Angeles, Cal. who was unable to reach here. In closing this brief Biography we feel the familiar lines of the poet are too appropriate to be omitted, not only as they apply to the departed, but they are comforting to the living. "Life, we've been together Through pleasant and through cloudy weather. 'Tis hard to part when friends are near. Perhaps will cost a sigh, a tear, Then steal away, give little warning, choose thine own time, Say not good night, But in some bright clime Bid me goodnight." Funeral services were held at the Round Hill Church Wed. morning, conducted by the pastor, Rev. EH Moore, assisted by Rev. CB Stanforth, pastor of the Trinity Church of Crawfordsville. Interment was at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. kbz
