Alexander Henderson, one of the pioneers of Montgomery County, died at 8 o’clock Wednesday evening at the home of his son, John Henderson, south of New Richmond. Although he had attained the age of 95 years and six months, he had been in the best of health until last Friday. Paralysis and erysipelas caused his death. Uncle Alec was known to almost every person in Wayne Township where he had lived almost ¾ of a century. He owned a farm at Wesley but had spent most of the time the last two years visiting his sons and daughters. He had made his home with John Henderson since last December. Decedent was born in NC. He came to this county with his parents when he was 14 years of age. Seven years later he moved to Parke County where he lived for a number of years and there he was married. His wife died 13 years ago. The surviving children are: John of New Richmond; Milton of Edmore, Mich; Mrs. Amanda Hendricks south of Waynetown, Mrs. Mary Lynch of Aylesworth, Fountain County and Mrs. George Munns of New England, N. Dak. Mr. Henderson had been life-long member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He served as steward of Union Chapel for 20 years. He lived an upright, Christian life, was a good neighbor, a kind friend, and generally beloved by his acquaintances. Funeral services will be held at Union Chapel at 1 o’clock, Friday afternoon. Interment will be made in Wesley Cemetery. - transcribed by kbz
