Heck - Aaron

Last evening at 5:45 o’clock there was a wreck between the two bridges of the Wea on the Monon, about eighteen miles north of this city, by which Aaron Heck, a trainman of Delphi, lost his life, and Julius Dunkersly and Frank Wyatt, of Medaryville, received injuries which may result fatally. An extra freight bound for the south pulled out of Lafayette in the evening and suddenly in rounding a curve ran into a large work train which was north bound, the engine of which was in the rear pushing the cars before it. The wreck was disastrous and complete, not enough being left of the work train to tell the story.
Engineer Myers, of the freight, was badly injured, and the three men afore mentioned, who were connected with the work train, will probably never any of them work again. Heck certainly will not, as he was instantly killed.
The wreck was quickly cleared and trains were running all right by midnight. The blame lies with the train dispatcher at Bloomington, who failed to notify either train of the others’ presence on the track. =s
