MELLOTT – Richard J. Head, 50, of Mellott, died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Veterans Hospital at Danville, Ill., where he had been a patient nearly a year. He was a semi-invalid since a stroke two and a half years ago and for a time was in Veterans Hospital at Indianapolis. Born Aug. 16, 1917 at Judyville, in Warren County, he was a son of William and Sally Willett Head. He was married Jan. 24, 1942 to Hazel Brewer of Veedersburg. He served a year in the U.S. Army receiving a medical discharge. Mr. Head was last employed at Purdue University. He had lived in Mellott the past seven years. He attended Prairie Chapel Church near Hillsboro. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. (Mildred) Richard Gross of Veedersburg and Mrs. (Margaret) Larry Zeller of Mellott; a son, Charles E. Head of near Veedersburg; three brothers, Florin E. of near Kingman, Alonzo of near Attica and a twin brother, Robert of Noblesville; a half-brother, Oscar P. Moore of Noblesville, and four grandchildren. Funeral services are announced for 2 p.m. today at Sever Mortuary in Veedersburg. Rev. Thomas Linton is the minister, and burial will be in Williamsport Cemetery. – typed by Chris M.
