On Saturday night at the East College Street home of his son-in-law, occurred the death of James M. Hays. The funeral will take place at the residence at 2:30 o’clock tomorrow afternoon, Rev. S. W. Goss officiating. The Odd Fellows will conduct the services at the grave at Oak Hill. Mr. Hays was born in Lebanon, Ohio, June 4, 1818 and in 1837 at Tarrytown, Ky., joined the M. E. Church under the preaching of Rev. John N. Moffat. In 1841 he came to Dearborn County, Ind., and at Moore’s Hill on June 24, 1843 was married to Clementine Bailey who died February 22, 1847, leaving two children, both of whom still live. They are Mrs. William Birch and John T. Hays, of Utah. On July 5, 1848 Mr. Hays was married a second time, the bride being Miss Fannie Fenton, of Aurora. She died December 25, 1885. On January 15, Mr. Hays came to Crawfordsville to make this his home and resided here until his death, honored and respected by all who knew him. He had been an Odd Fellow for over fifty years and was a member of the Knights Templar commandery at Aurora. -s
