Ladoga, June 20 – George W. Havens, one of Ladoga’s most prominent residents and for many years identified with the poultry business of western Indiana passed away at his home here Thursday morning following an extended illness. Mr. Havens’ death occurred at 4:30 o’clock and was the result of a stroke of paralysis. He had been in declining health for the past three and a half years. George W. Havens was born July 14, 1857 near Indianapolis, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Havens. He came to Ladoga in 1883 where he made his home since. In 1884 he was united in marriage with Emma McIlvaine. In addition to extensive poultry holdings in many Indiana cities Mr. Havens was also prominently identified with the Ladoga building and loan association. Poultry houses operated by the deceased were located at Ladoga, Bloomington, Cloverdale, Gosport, Greencastle, Bedford, Salem, Orleans, Dana, Bloomingdale and Tuscola, Illinoi. Mr. Havens was also interested in the Jacques-Havens poultry company of Crawfordsville and Clayton. Before engaging in the poultry business Mr. Havens conducted a grocery in Ladoga. Those who survive are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Opal Davis of Ladoga; a sister, Mrs. Jessie Trindle of Los Angeles, California and a grandson Edmund Davis of Ladoga. During the last several days of his illness his sister had been a constant attendant at his bedside. The funeral services will be held at the home Saturday morning at 10:30 o’clock with the Rev. VD Ragan of the Ladoga Presbyterian church in charge. Burial will be made in the Ladoga Cemetery. Mr. Havens was an uncle of Beemer Havens who is in charge of the local poultry house owned by Havens Brothers, and is one of the Havens Brothers, who organized the Havens Brothers poultry business. Mr. Beemer Havens plans to attend the funeral of his uncle. - kz
