Funeral services for Mrs. James P. (Edith) Hastings, age 76, of 411 Seventh St., who died at 3 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Danville, Ill., were held at 2 p. m. Sunday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home here. Mrs. Hastings had been in ill health the past year and was hospitalized 10 days. She was born Aug. 7, 1887, in Covington, the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth Sharon Hunt. She had attended the Covington schools and she was married May 12, 1909 to James P. Hastings, who survives. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Covington and its Ladies Aid Society. Mrs. Hastings' death was attributed to cancer of which her family was unaware until she was hospitalized. Mrs. Hastings was well known throughout the area having for many years assisted her husband in the Hastings Jewelers shop, located on the east side of the square. Surviving, in addition to the husband, are: one daughter, Mrs. Max (Mary) Layton of Washington St., and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Sharon Hunt. Dr. Eric Dean, professor at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, who served the Covington Presbyterian Church as supply minister for about a year and a half, officiated. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were: Guy Faust, Roy C. Fenters, Rex Crowder, Frost Harden, Cleland Douglass, Tom McGurk, Don Hunt and Roy Hunt. --typed by Walt W
