Robert Hartman, 83, a retired Spanish-American War veteran, died early this morning at his home at 119 West 19th.  He had been in declining health for several years.

  A native of Indiana, he was born at Crawfordsville on April 28, 1876, the son of the late David W. and Eliza J. Nuckles Hartman.
 Mr. Hartman spent his youth in Indiana and as a young man enlisted in the United States Army on April 8, 1898.  He served as a private with Company "M" in the Regiment of Indiana.  He later served in Company "H" and Troop "S" Regiment of Cavalry, from 1903 to 1906.

  He came to Pine Bluff in 1945 and was married on December 7, of that year to Mrs. Minta Todd, who survives him.

  He was a member of the First Methodist Church and a member of Lafayette Royal Arch Masonic Chapter No. 3 and Battle Ground Masonic Lodge No. 313 of Battle Ground, Indiana.

  In addition to his wife, he is survived by two step-sons, C.E. Todd and F.G. Todd of Pine Bluff.

  Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Ralph Robinson and Son Mortuary by the Rev. William O. Byrd, pastor of the First Methodist Church.
