Hartley - Thomas

Thomas Hartley, formerly of this city, died at Brazil on New Year's day. The body will be brought here for burial. It will arrive via the Vandalia this evening and will be taken to the home of Joseph Hartley, near Britton's Glen, just west of the city. The funeral will occur on Thursday at 2 o'clock from the residence of Mr. Hartley and will be conducted by Rev. Day of Brazil. The Brazil Times has the following account of his death:
"Thomas E. Hartley departed this life at the residence, No. 12 east Church street, at 8:30 o'clock this morning. He was born February 17, 1853, and was united in marriage to Pauline M. Sloan, January 20, 1874, the union being blessed by the birth of one son, O.J. Hartley. Mr. Hartley has only been a resident of Brazil for about a year. He resided with his son, who is embalmer for G.R. Shultz & Son. He leaves to mourn besides his wife and son, one sister, Mrs. Rev. Trinkle of Clark's Hill, Ind., and one brother, Joseph Hartley of Crawfordsville. Mr. Hartley was a member of the Christian church and also of Ben Hur lodge. There will be a short funeral service tomorrow at 2 p.m. from the residence by Rev's Day and Greene. The remains will be taken to the old home and laid to rest in the family lot at Oak Hill cemetery in Crawfordsville. – thanks to Kim H for this one
