Hartley - Ora Edgar

Ora Edgar Hartley, 71, of 411 E. College St., was fatally stricken about 2 p.m. Tuesday at his farm a mile east of Linnsburg. The body was found in a hog shed where he had been working. A son of Joseph and Emma Hartley, he was born in this community Sept. 7, 1891. He was married here June 4, 1944 to Audrey Cunningham, who survives. Mr. Hadley was an overseas veteran of World War I and received the Distinguished Service Cross for gallantry in action from Gen. John J. Pershing, commanding the American Expeditionary Forces. He was a charter member of the American Legion and a member of the Eagles Lodge. Mr. Hartley was retired. He had been employed at the Crawfordsville Ready Mix Co. and by the State Highway Department. Survivors include two sisters, Nora McClelland and Mable Branham, and three brothers, George, Charles and Eston Hartley of in and near Crawfordsville; a brother-in-law, Fred E. Cunningham of this city, and these niece and nephews: Ada Pearl and Louise Branham of Crawfordsville and Joe Hartley of Indianapolis, Don Hartley of Dover, Del., and Faye Branham of Crawfordsville. A brother, Thomas Hartley, preceded him in death. Funeral services are announced for 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hunt & Son Funeral Home, with Rev. W. Goddard Sherman officiating and burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Wednesday. – jlr
