Veedersburg - Obie E. Hartley, 81, retired farmer and former Fountain County Highway Department employee, died Tuesday at 6:45 a.m., at the Rudisill Nursing Home in Covington. Hartley was born Dec. 6, 1880, in Hillsboro. His parents were William and Laura Davis Hartley. He was married to Elva Gritten, Dec. 25, 1901. Hartley and his wife moved into Veedersburg this summer, after living on a farm in Fountain County for the past 20 years. They were also former residents of Hoopston and Danville, Ill. Hartley was a member of the Methodist Church of Veedersburg. Survivors include the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Ralph Roderick, Lafayette and Mrs. Florence Strawser; Danville, Ill.; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild, and a brother, Earl Hartley, Kingman. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home. Rev. August Stork will officiate. Burial will be in the Mann’s Chapel Cemetery, Rossville, Ill. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Wednesday.
