Harshbarger - Mary Myers

Last Friday at 4:30 o'clock, Mrs. Jacob M. Harshbarger was found dead in bed at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Davidson near Whitesville, where she had gone for a visit after attending the commencement exercises here on Wednesday in honor of her grandson, Homer J. Davidson. During the winter she was in poor health but for some weeks past had been much better. Last Friday she seemed somewhat fatigured, but otherwise nothing unusual was noticed when the family retired at 11:30 p.m. Death had probably occurred at 3:30 a.m. but her granddaughter, Nora who slept with her was undisturbed. The funeral of Mrs. Harshbarger occurred Monday at 3 p.m. the services being conducted by the Rev. Mr. Brooks of the Ladoga Christian Church. The interment took place a the family cemetery. Mary Myers Harshbarger was born in Botetourt County, Virginia Oct 28, 1826 was the only daughter of Henry and Hannah Arnold Myers, who located in Scott Township, Montgomery County, Indiana in 1833. She was married to Jacob M. Harshbarger, April 13, 1848. Five children were born to them, Marion, who died while a baby; Henry M, who died after reaching manhood; Salome Ellen, wife of DH Davidson; Amanda Ann, wife of Hon. EV Brookshire and Goerge W, who lives with his family at the homestead, two and a half miles north of Ladoga. She had one brother, who was accidentally killed at the age of 12 years. Twelve grandchildren survive. Mrs. Harshbarger was a quiet, unassuming woman, dearly beloved by a al arge number of relatives and close friends. She wa snoted for her many acts of kindness and will be sincerely mourned throughout the whole community with which her life has been identified. A few years ago she united with the Christian Church at Ladoga and has since been a consistent and devoted member. Last year the golden wedding of Mr., and Mrs. Harshbarger was fittingly celebrated when a large circle of relatives and friends were present to offer congratulated on an anniversary which found them well preserved, happy and prosperous with only one broken link in the family chain. - transcribed by kbz
