Thomas Allen Harris, a well-known resident of this city, was born on August 27, 1861, in Clermont County, Ohio, the son of Jordan and Sarah Harris. He was united in marriage to Linnie Black on December 7, 1893. Early in his life he accepted Jesus Christ as his Saviour, and for the past thirteen years has been a faithful member of the First United Brethren Church of Crawfordsville, having been received into its membership under the ministry of the late George L. Stine. For ten years he was employed at the old city heating plant during the winter months, and cared for lawns and gardens during the summer months. This employment enlarged his friendship to include many prominent citizens in the city and this friendship continued to the end of his life. He was taken suddenly ill at his home, 1103 East Main Street, on Tuesday evening and passed away on Wednesday at 1:30 P.M., June 10, 1936. Death was attributed to a complication of diseases. Surviving in sorrow are: the widow; one son, Raymond, who is a member of the city Fire Department; a daughter, Ruby Garvey, of this city; four grandchildren, Lela Muriel, Lowell Allen, Rex Laverne, and Robert Merlyn. One son, Randall, preceeded him in death on August 3, 1934. His father, mother, two sisters, and one brother, also have preceeded him in death. One sister, Cora Marshall, of Logansport, and four brothers, Harry, of Logansport, Charles, Elwood and Fred of Darlington, also survive. He was a kind and loving father, a devoted companion, a good friend to all who knew him. He passed out of this life with strong faith in his Lord, with Whom he had fellowshipped in this earthly life. He is not dead, but gone to his reward."
