Raymond W. "Slim" Harris, 82, of 1001 Cottage Ave., died Saturday morning in Culver Hospital. The former Crawfordsville Fire Department captain retired in 1966 after serving for 41 years. He was also an ardent sportsman. Mr. Harris was born Aug. 25, 1896, a son of Thomas Allen and Linnie Black Harris. His first wife was Ethel Ray who died in 1930. He was married to Mary L. Calvert Dec. 2, 1932. She survives. Other survivors are a son, Lowell Allen Harris of Crawfordsville; a stepson, Donald Gobwell of Crawfordsville; two daughters, Lela Knoop of Louisville and Carolynn Horney of Crawfordsville; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be this afternoon at 4 o'clock in Hunt & Son Funeral Home. Rev. Lester Vanest will be officiating and burial will be in St. James Lutheran Cemetery near Darlington.
