Mrs. Ethel Smith McCullough Harris, 77, prominent for many years in a number of community activities, died at St. Anthony Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fl at 6 a.m. Firday. She had been a patient there only since Thursday night but had been in failing health for several years. Mrs. Harris had been living with her son, Richard McCullouch at 1025 13th St, St. Petersburg. While a resident of Crawfordsville, Mrs. Harris was a member of the Lew Wallace Study Board for many years/ was active in Red Cross work, especially during WWII; belonged to Group B. Needle Workers of the Art League; was a charter member of Chapter BE of the PEO Sisterhood here, and was active for many years in Republican Party politics. Mrs. Harris was a member of the Methodist Church at St. Petersburg. Born July 5, 1889, in Crawfordsville, Mrs. Harris was the daughter of Alaric M. and Paririe Smith. She attended Willson school and was graduated from CHS. She was first married to Thad McCulloch, who preceded her in death. They lived at Mt. Vernon, ind. Her marriage to LeRoy Harris took place Oct 24, 1946. He died Dec 19, 1951. The survivors include two sons, Dr. Thad C. McCulloch of Salem, VA and Richard McCulloch of St. Petersburg and 3 grandchildren, Thad S. McCulloch Jr, Carl McCulloch and Ann McCulloch all of Salem, Robert A. Smith of this city is a nephew. Preceded her in death were a brother, Charles Smith and a sister, Mrs. Vera Youngman. Funeral services are pending. - kbz
