Harris - Charles D.

Source: Crawfordsville Weekly Journal Friday, 27 August 1897

At noon, August 13th, occurred the death of Charles D. Harris at the home of his mother, near Oakland, Minn. For nearly five years he was a member of the class of ’85 in Wabash College, which he left during his junior year on account of failing health. He will be remembered in Crawfordsville as a quiet, earnest student who stood at the head of his class and also spent many leisure hours finding and preparing crinoid specimens from the beds near the city. These specimens are in many colleges of the United States and the finest specimens known, found in the universities of England, and recently written of by Henry M. Field, are the work of his untiring patience. Upon leaving college he entered a drug store as clerk, which position he resigned last January owing to continued ill health. While a druggist he invented and patented an electric elevator, and a thermostat, which automatically regulates the temperature of rooms heated by gas. His mother, two sisters, and two brothers survive him. - thanks muches S
