Arthur J. Harpel, Sr, 100, of Crawfordsville died Tuesday. He was born in Waynetown on Nov 14, 1906. He married Mary Elizabeth Morrow on April 19, 1935 in Chicago. He graduated from Waynetown High School in 1926 and attended Wabash College.
He worked building airfields in Alaska during WWII. He was recently inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame for Montgomery County. He was a farmer and also retired from Alcoa Aluminum in Lafahette. Survivors include daughter Barbara "Jim" Easter; a son, Arthur (Sandy) "Rita' Harpel, Jr; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors in their home at Williamsburg Assisted Living, 1592 Delgates Row from Saturday from 2-4 p.m. He will be creamated with a private service at a later date.
