Crawfordsville – George S. Harney, 87, who had been a lawyer, farmer, industrialist, army officer, club founder, editor and author died today. Harney’s colorful career led him from law to the army where he served as an officer in the Spanish-American War. He held extensive farming interests in Idaho and at one time was an official of the American Zinc Mill at Greencastle. He was an 1883 graduate of Wabash College and was one of the founders of the Crawfordsville Elks Club. At one time he was secretary of the Chamber of Commerce and editor of the Crawfordsville Review. In 1951, he published his first book – David Lannark, Midget. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Emma Young Harney; a son, James H. Harney, a government employee in Washington and a daughter, Mrs. Robert M. Switzer of Kingsport, Tenn. – kbz
