WAVELAND – George D. Harmon, Waveland businessman, died Saturday morning at the West 10th Street Veterans Hospital in Indianapolis. Mr. Harmon, 58, had been in declining health for several years and seriously ill for the last five days. The deceased owned and operated Harmon’s Grocery for 25 years. He remained active in the establishment until his most recent illness. A veteran of Army Air Force service in World War II, he was a member of Raymond Todd Post 323, American Legion. He was also a member of the Waveland Christian Church. Born on June 21, 1911, in Champaign, Ill, he was the son of John W. and Anna Rice Harmon. He was reared in the Waveland community and graduated from high school there in 1929. He was married on June 8, 1947 to Jeanette Smith who survives. Other survivors include a stepson, Richard Smith of Crawfordsville; a brother, John F. Harmon of Evanston, Ill.; three sisters, Mrs. Helen Warren of LaSalle. Ill., Mrs. James Callis of Madison, Wis., and Mrs. Martha Shaw of Arlington, Va. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Machledt & Servies Funeral Home with Rev. Herbert Swearingen in charge. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Old Union Cemetery. – jlr
