Complications arising from a fracture sustained several years ago caused the death of Oren M. Harlan, 83, Civil War veteran and resident of Crawfordsville for many years at his home 1203 east Main street at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday. Son of Stephen and Diana Harlan. Mr. Harlan was born in Annapolis, Md., March 28, 1846. His wife died eighteen months after his marriage early in his life. Mr. Harlan saw action in many battles of the Civil war, serving with the Tennessee cavalry on the Union side. He was a member of the G.A.R. and Knights of Pythias and Odd Fellows lodge. The deceased was a member of the United Brethren church. Mr. Harlan had made his home with his brother, W.T. Harlan for the past 35 years. Surviving are three brothers, W.T. Harlan, of this city, Oscar B. Harlan, of Bloomingdale and James A. Harlan of Chicago; a half brother, Stephen O. Harlan of Chicago; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at the Proffitt and Sons funeral home Thursday afternoon at two o'clock with Rev. G.L. Stine in charge. Burial will take place in Oak Hill cemetery. - kbz
