John Hannah, (sic) an old resident of this township died at his home 3 miles east of Brownsvalley on Sunday after a painful illness. The immediate cause of death was gastritis. The funeral services at the Brownsvalley Baptist Church were conducted by Rev. JW Kendall of Pleasant Lake, after which the interment took place at Freedom Cemetery north of town. Those present from Waveland were WS Goslin and wife, Joe Hicks and wife, Mrs. Harry English, Rev. LF Galey and wife, TL Hanna, Mrs. Penn Hanna, Mrs. David Demaree, Theodore Sharp, WR Kelso and wife, Mrs. John Rice and Mrs. Jap Rice. Mr. Hanna (sic) was born in KY over 71 years ago, and was one of a family of 11 children of whom 4 survive: Adam, George and Thomas and Mrs. David Neely. Mr. Hanna was a prominent member of the Baptist Church. - kbz

Uncle John Hanna died last Sunday at 11 o’clock. The funeral was conducted at the Browns Valley Baptist Church. Interment at Freedom.

John W. Hanna was born in Shelby county, Ky., Feb. 8, 1830, and died at his home near Brown's Valley, Nov. 24th, 1901. He was a son of James Hanna who, with his family, settled in Montgomery county, Indiana, when John was two years of age. He was married to Nancy E. Allen Jan. 12th, 1854, with whom he lived happily until his death. This model pair were childless, but have been father and mother to numerous children of other parents. Mr. Hanna united with the Freedom Baptist church when 16 years of age, and in 1874 in company with about sixty others constituted the Baptist church at Brown's Valley, of which he continued a faithful member and loyal sup porter. He died peacefully after thirteen months of painful illness. Mr. Hanna was a model husband, a devoted Christian, a good neighbor and a patriotic and public spirited citizen. His benevolence was broad, intelligent and unstinted. He lived for and with the people, and leaves an example worthy the emulation of all who knew his noble life. He was a liberal sup porter of Christion education and missions. He was one of twelve children, of whom one sister and three brothers survive. Mrs. David Nealy is the sister, George Hanna, of Greencastle, Adam Hanna, of Waveland, and Thos. Hanna are the brothers.
Thus another of our best men is gone from us and his work on earth to his eternal inheritance. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. M. Kendall at the Brown's Valley church Tuesday, Nov. 26, and the remains were interred at Freedom cemetery.
