THORNTOWN - Richard D. Hankins, 61, died of a heart ailment at his home here at 3 p.m. Saturday. He was a member of the town board here 14 years and served as its president. A native of this community, he was a son of David Carlos and Ethel Canine Hankins and was born Sept. 8, 1908. He was married to Pauline Shull on June 28, 1936 at Sharpsville. Mr. Hankins was a member of the United Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge here. A 1928 graduate of Thorntown High School, he attended Central Normal College, Akron University and was graduated from Goodyear U, and employed 15 years in the Ohio city with the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. Returning to Thorntown in 1946 he was employed 21 years at the Biddle Screw Works in Sheridan, where he was a supervisor. Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Richard S. and Gregory C. Hankins of Thorntown; two grandchildren, Laurie Kay and Richard Steven Hankins of Thorntown; four brothers, Russell T. of Hastings, Mich., Don of Anderson and Guy and Max of Thorntown, and four sisters, Mrs. Leroy Waddle of Rt. 5, Lebanon, Mrs. Harry Norris of Plymouth, Mrs. Joe Madison of Clarkson and Mrs. J. Richard Vannice of Edinburg. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Russell and Hitch Funeral Home here, where friends may call and where Masonic rites are set for 9 o'clock tonight. Revs. Robert Hayden and Harold Clark will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery. - jlr
