John Ernest HANDLEY, 78, died Thursday morning of a heart ailment. He died in the home of a daughter, Mrs. Mary Hester, Crawfordsville, after an extended illness of six months. Mr. Handley was the son of John and Louise Handley, born May 10, 1871 in Mobley, Missouri. He married Fronia McAllister April 3, 1900 in Montgomery County, Missouri. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Guion. Mr. Handley retired from farming several years ago and has lived for 42 years as a resident in the Waveland Community. Those remaining are his wife, 5 sons: Julius; Eugene; John and Frank, all of Waveland and Harry of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; another daughter, Mrs. Madge Straughn, of Mishawaka; a brother, James of Peoria, Ill; a sister, Mrs. Lula Anderson of Mobley and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Leo who died in 1910 and Earl who died in 1932. The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon Nov 19 at 2:00 from the Machledt Funeral Home with Rev. HH Elmore officiating. Interment was made in the Bruin Cemetery near Guion. Julius Handley, eldest son, suffered a heart attack following the funeral and is confined to his bed at the family home. He remains in very serious condition.
