WAYNETOWN, Ind. (CNS) – Ray L. Hampton, 69, of Waynetown Route 1, died at 7:35 a.m. Monday (Feb. 25, 1974) in Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville. He had been a patient there since Feb. 8 when he fractured his hip in a fall. Born June 19, 1904, at New Market, he was the son of Edward L. and Mary Kessler Hampton. On Oct. 11, 1924 in Darlington, he married Grace Wheller (note: Grace Ellen Wheeler), who survives. Other survivors include a son, James of Greencastle; four brothers, Claude of Frankfort, Manford of Akron, Ohio, Bert of Waveland and Herschel of New Market; two sisters, Mrs. Opal Hipes of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Beatrice Forrest in Florida; and six grandchildren. A graduate of New Market High, he had farmed in the Waynetown area from 1929 to his recent retirement. He was a deacon and member of the Baptist Church, member of IOOF Lodge 331 and encampment of the lodge, and a member of Wayne Township Farm Bureau. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Servies-Thomas Funeral Home, with the Rev. Stephen Malone officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery. Friends will be received after 2 p.m. today at the funeral home. – jlr
