Hammitt, John - Montgomery InGenWeb Project

John Hammitt, 53, of Joliet, Ill a former Crawfordsville resident died at 4 p.m. Saturday in a Joliet hospital after a two-week illness.

Mr. Hammitt lived in Crawfordsville for several years prior to moving to Joliet.  His father, Guy Hammitt was manager of the Strand Theatre for several years.  Mr. Hammitt was employed as a movie projectionist in the Joliet area.  Born in New Castle, he was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy V. Hammitt.  He was married to former Crawfordsville resident, Carolyn White.  

Survivors include the widow; father, Guy and stepmother of Jacksonville Fla; two brothers, Guy Jr. of Indianapolis and Jack of Madison; a sister, Nora of Jacksonville, Fla and a half sister, Mary of Chesterfield.

Friends may call at the Fred Dames Funeral Home in Joliet where services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Graveside rites will be conducted at Waynetown Masonic Cemetery at 3 p.m. Tuesday.  - kbz
