Hamm - Zylphia Underwood

Zylphia G. Hamm, daughter of John T. and Sarah E. Underwood, was born in Hamilton County, Ohio, near Cincinnati, Dec. 18th, 1850. She departed this life Feb. 8th, 1902, aged 51 years, 1 month and 21 days.

She united with the Christian Church at Alamo Feb. 5th, 1898, since which time she has been a devout Christian worshiper.
Zylphia was married to Arthur Hamm by Rev. F. Mikels, at Yountsville, Oct. 28, 1869. To this union was born seven children, all of whom, save Laura, who preceded her mother to her reward at the age of twelve, April 9th, 1884, survive to mourn the loss of a fond and affectionate mother.

Zylphia wrote her own biography by an exemplary life, which is more impressive than that could come from mortal tongue or inspired pen. Her light will continue to shine as a typical example of pure Christian spirit long after all that was mortal has returned to the material form whence it came. As a teacher of those impressive truths which can come from maternity alone, her ability is well and unquestionably displayed in the life and character of six loving and devoted children.

Zylphia leaves us as a beloved neighbor of whom it can be truthfully said no one ever felt the sting of censure or rebuke from her compassionate lips. She lived in almost universal practice of the Savior’s command. Much rather would she suffer material injury from those with whom she came in contact, than ever think of incurring their enmity.

Desolate and broken is our home without mother, deep and severe our pangs of sorrow in being forced to give her up, but yet the dark cloud is rifted and we see the bright, resplendent rays of light shine out boldly through the tears of sorrow in the hope, yes, in the knowledge of for her a life eternal. - thanks so very much to "S" for all her wonderful obit work for this site !!
