Thorntown - Fred Hamm, 56 of Thorntown died Thursday in Veterans Administration Medical Center at Indianapolis.  He was born April 18, ,1931 at Thorntown to Irvin and Inez Humphrey Hamm.  He graduated in 1946 from Crawfordsville HS.  He joined the Air Force in 1946 and served as a staff sergeant during the Korean Conflict. He served as a flight engineer in the armed forced.
He was then a flight engineer for Eastern Arirlines in New York for eight year, moved to California where he was a flight engineer for Air California four years then moved back to Thorntown where he worked as a concrete finisher. He held a private pilot's license.  Mr. Hamm was engaged to Pat Fairfield who survives. Also surviving are three children: Rick of Orange, Calif; Peggy Tackman of Irvine, Calif and Kim Potter of Mission Viejo, Calif; a brother, Bob Hamm of Koomo; four sisters, Betty Lough and Jane Clouser of Thorntown and Kay Kristiansen and Ruth Ann Wyant both of Arizona and four grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Russell & Hitch Funeral Home at Thorntown with Rev. Lawrence Fairfield officiating. Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 pm. (sic - a.m?) today. Military graveside rites will be conducted. - kbz
