Waynetown, March 23 - Mrs. Mary Hamilton, 84, church leader and pioneer dry crusader in Waynetown died at 10:10 o'clock Saturday morning at the home of her nephew, Albert Duke of this place. Death was caused by paralysis. She had been seriously ill for the past 10 days. Mrs. Hamilton was born near Waynetown on August 1, 1855, the daughter of John and Sophia Bunnell Fouts. When she was 11 years of age her mother died and she went to live in the home of Charles Dwiggins where she remained six years. She then moved to Rossville Ill and on October 30, 1874 she was married to Dr. AN Hamilton who died 14 years ago. With the exception of the brief time she live at Rossville her entire life was spent in the Waynetown community. She was a member of the Baptist Church, which faith she joined when she was 13 years of age. She was an active church worker, Sunday School and young people's leader, and was the guiding leader of a public remonstrance which led in December 1898 to the closing of saloons in Waynetown which thereafter remained dry until repeal. She is survived by one nephew, Albert Duke at whose home she died. The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon from the Waynetown Baptist Church in charge of Rev. IC Overman. Burial will be made in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. - kbz
