Waynetown, Ind. (CNS) -- Elijah Hallett, 88, died at 2:20 p.m. Sunday (March 5, 1967) at Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville where he had been taken Saturday. Born Jan. 8, 1879 in Montgomery County, he was the son of Felix and Rebecca Newkirk Hallett. He was married Feb. 14, 1900 to Maggie Burks, who survives. Educated at Gray Elementary School, he was a farmer for many years before coming to Waynetown. He and a brother, Charles, went into the hardware business for six years, after which Mr. Hallett worked for Myers Brothers in Waynetown. He retired five years ago. He served as township assessor for several years. He was a member of the Waynetown Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge No. 302, and was the oldest 50-year member of the Low 12 Club at Wallace. Other survivors include a son, Herman, of Anderson; a daughter, Mrs. Ruby Bushong of Crawfordsville; a brother, Alva of Alamo; four grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown with the Rev. Raymond Rhoda and the Rev. Guy E. Tremaine officiating. Masonic services will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call after 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. -kbz

Funeral services for Elijah Hallett were held Wedesday morning at the Servies Funeral Home, Rev. Raymond F. Rhoda and Rev. Guy E. Tremaine were officiating ministers. Organ music played by Miss Lois Sennett (blurred) included special requestion selections, Rock of Ages and abide With Me. Pallbearers who also assisted with the flowers were Richard Harrison (blurred), Clifford Hallett, Lacy Hallet, Paul Leslie Hallett, Oral Hallett and James Biddle. A Masonic service was held with Roy Meharry of New Richmond in charge. Members of the Waynetown Lodge taking part were Russell Harris, worshipful master, Rex Henthorn, senior warden; Claude C. Cord, treasurer; Alford Austin, secretary; Lowell K. Stockdale, senior deacon; Frank D. Endicott, junior deacon; Eugene Cox, chaplain; Charles Fay, junior stewart; Clayde Bowlus, tyler; Gordon Miles, Carl Remley, Bill Milton and Francis Grimble. - kz

Elijah Hallett, 88, a retired merchant of Waynetown, father of Herman Hallett, teacher at South Side Junior HS died Sunday at the Culver Hospital at Crawfordsville. Mr. Hallett had visited here many times. He and his wife had celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on Feb 14. Surviving are the widow; two children, Herman of Anderson and Mrs. Stanley Bushong of Crawfordsville; four grandchildren including Mrs. Richard Harrison of Anderson and 9 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wed at 10:30at Servies Mortuary in Waynetown and burial will also be at Waynetown. – kbz
