Wes Haines died at about 10 o’clock Sunday evening at his home, three miles north of New Richmond, from an attack of cerebro hemorrhage, death resulting in lees than an hour after he first felt ill. With his wife he attended a family reunion Sunday at the homo of his brother, Joe W. Haines, near Crawfordsville, returning home late that afternoon. His death came as a sudden shock to his family and to the community. John Wesley Haines, son of Samuel and Rebecca Garwood Haines, was born in Burlington, New Jersey, April 7, 1848; he being 64 years old at the time of his death. At the age of seven years he came with his parents to Montgomery county, Indiana, settling near Wingate where he grew to manhood. He was married May 25, 1870, to Nancy Smith, at Odell, and all of their married life was spent in Tippecanoe and Montgomery counties. To their union were born three children, two sons, Edward and Jesse, died in infancy. One daughter, Mrs. Mattie Knab of Elston, with the widow and two granddaughters, Edith and Ella Mann, survive him. Mr. Haines was one of ten children —seven brothers and three sisters. One sister and four brothers still survive—Mrs. Mariam Barnett of Benedict, Kansas; David Haines of Kansas; Price Haines of California; Charley Haines of Iowa; and Joe W. Haines of Crawfordsville. Mr. Haines lived in New Richmond tor many years. He had followed huckstering for a long time, was well known in a wide community, and bis familiar face and figure will be missed. He was a member of the Friends church at Farmer’s Institute, though in later years seldom attended there. The funeral was held Wednesday morning from the New Richmond Christian church, conducted by Rev. F. E. Davison. The interment was made in the New Richmond cemetery. - kbz
