Dr. Charles E. Hadley, 82, of 208 West St., died Wednesday morning in his home. He was a retired professor on biology who had taught at Wabash College during his career. Dr. Hadley was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Kappa Delta Pi, American Society of Zoologists, New York Academy of Services and a Fellow of AAAS. He was a veteran of World War I, had been a professor at various eastern colleges in New York and New Jersey, and served as science consultant to the U.S. Army University in France in 1945-1946. He has also written various research articles for publication. Dr. Hadley was a member of St. John's Episcopal church. Born Jan. 7, 1893 at Madras, India, he was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hadley, Baptist missionaries. He resided many years at Lewiston, Maine, was graduated from Bates College in 1914 and received his Masters and Ph.D degrees from Harvard University. He came to Wabash College in 1965, returned to New Jersey in 1968 and then retired in 1974 and moved back to Crawfordsville. Surviving are the widow, Doris; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Robert Heath of Wabash and Mrs. Louis Marciante of Titusville, NJ.; five step-grandchildren, and a nephew Robert H. Perry of Potomac, Md. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. John's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Duff Green and the Rev. Robert Webb officiating. The body will be cremated. The family has asked that donations be made to St. John's Church.
