Hackett - Anna Ryan

Source: Crawfordsville Daily Journal April 5, 1912 p6

Mrs. Anna Hackett, wife of Thomas Hackett of Ladoga died shortly after 11 on Sunday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. AH Dasher, 704 West Pike Street, whom she had come to visit three weeks ago. After searching this city Mrs. Hackett grew worse, and although she had a great desire to return to her home she was unable to do so. Several times she had dropped ready for the strip she was so weak that she was compelled to go back to bed before she --- anemia or the hardening of the arteries, a disease which had affected her for more than a year.  Prior to her death for a period of six days she was unconscious and during that period her death had been expected at any time.  Mrs. Hackett was the daughter of John Ryan and she was born in Ireland about 68 years ago.  She came to this country and located in Ladoga with her parents when she was a girl and all her life has been spent there since that time. She was twice married, the first time to John R. Haney of Ladoga and the last time to Thomas Hackett.  Her first husband was killed by a Monon train 31 years ago shortly after his marriage. There was always some question about his death and several people believed he met with foul play. Some of the residents of Clark Township think he may have been murdered and robbed and then place in the railway track by his guilty slayers. Besides her husband, Mrs. Hackett is survived by three children: Walter J. Haney, manager of the Louis Bischof store at Ladoga, Mrs. DG Harbert (?) of San Diego, Calif and Mrs. Dasher of this city. Three children are dead.  Three brothers, James and Daniel Ryan of near Maxinkuckee, Ind and Daniel Ryan of near New Ross and two sisters, Mrs. Sallie Baker of near New Ross and Miss Mary Ryan of Ladoga, survive.  Mrs. Hackett was a lifelong member of St. Bernard Church in this city. She was a really good woman and it was a delight for her to perform any act of charity. She was good, kind and congenial and to know her intimately was to admire her many excellent qualities.  The funeral will be held at St. Bernard’s church on Wednesday morning at 9 and will be conducted by Rev. TM Conroy. Interment at Calvary cemetery.  – thanks so much to Joan Oppy and Dellie Craig for this one – you two rock!
